Taken from http://pacer.uscourts.gov/pacerdesc.html Public Access to Court Electronic Records (PACER) is an electronic public access service that allows users to obtain case and docket information from Federal Appellate, District and Bankruptcy courts, and the U.S. Party/Case Index via the Internet. Links to all courts are provided from this web site. Electronic access is available by registering with the PACER Service Center, the judiciary's centralized registration, billing, and technical support center.

The judiciary's "Public Access to Court Electronic Records" system is a difficult-to-use and expensive database of federal court documents. Its pay-wall prevents it from being indexed by search engines, and its poor interface makes court documents practically inaccessible for the average person. If we are to be a nation of laws, and if "ignorance of the law is no defense", then we must have easy, free access to case law. Carl Malamud has been doing great work providing public access to Pacer documents. I'd suggest that you partner with him to make this information much more widely available. If the government provides bulk data, entrepreneurs and nonprofits alike can build consumer facing services.

Not to take from the work of Malamud, but he is providing a service that should be done by the government. Is it really open government if private citizens have to make things available online?
